Michael Lucas (born Andrei Treivas March 10, 1972 is a gay pornographic actor,[3] director and the founder/CEO of Lucas Entertainment, New York's largest gay-adult-film company. Lucas has been called "Gay Porn's Neocon Kingpin"[4], the "Lion of Chelsea" and the "last of the New York porn moguls".He is also known for his outspoken views on Judaism and Islam and his criticism of drug use and unprotected sex in the gay community. In 1995, Lucas moved to Germany[5] and lived in France for two years before moving to the United States. Although not described as a "gay magazine", After Dark regularly covered topics of interest to the gay community. Cal Culver, better known as the gay porn star Casey Donovan, appeared on the cover of the December 1972 issue.The February 1975 issue included a photographic portfolio of the gay porn star Peter Berlin.
The magazine publishers acknowledged the magazine's appeal to the gay community, noting that the magazine "had gotten a following in the homosexual community seven or eight years before any of the current homosexual magazines came on the market."
